The Very Reverend Archimandrite Michael Giavris
The Very Reverend Archimandrite Michael Giavris is a clergyman of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. He was born in 1985 and was raised in the suburbs of Chicago as well as the Peloponnesian city of Tripoli.
After his undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois Chicago and Hellenic College from 2004 to 2008, Fr. Michael studied graduate level theology at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki and at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Boston, graduating with a Master of Divinity in 2011. During his studies in Greece, he also completed a specialized program in Byzantine Music, earning a teaching license from the Central Music Conservatory of Thessaloniki in 2010.
In addition to his studies, Fr. Michael has served in the Office of the Chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America for six years, in the Chief Secretariat of the Ecumenical Patriarchate for two years, and, most recently, in the Office of the Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America since his ordination to the diaconate on February 2, 2020.
On November 8, 2022, Fr. Michael was ordained to the priesthood and elevated to the rank (offikion) of Archimandrite. Since then, while continuing his work in the Office of the Archbishop, he simultaneously serves as the Presiding Priest of the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint George & Saint Demetrios in the Upper Manhattan neighborhood of New York City.
